We have decided to use lots of different props in our trailer such as:
Scissors:
Scissors:
Our story revolves around a hairdresser obsessed with her male clientele. Therefore, scissors feature heavily in our trailer, including being used as the thumbnail of trailer when we uploaded it to Youtube.
Throughout the trailer, we sought to portray the theme of an unlikely killer. Scissors embody this theme far better than conventional horror such as knives, as traditionally they are used as a tool to help people; in this case to cut the client's hair. In our trailer, we turned this idea on its head and turned the scissors into the tool of a killer; and because of this they retained the intimacy of more familiar horror weapons. |
Rope
The use of restraints also features in our trailer. Within our theme of an unlikely killer, we decided to cast a female killer against a male victim, in turn challenging the male stereotype of dominance and strength.
The use of rope as a restraint against a male victim reinforces this, serving to provide connotations of submission in the place of power. To this end, it deprives the character of any assumed biological superiority and puts him a position of lower significance than the female killer. This suggests to the viewer that, since he does not hold much significance to her, she has killed many more; contrasting the initial perception that she is obsessed with him. |
Tarpaulin |
We also used tarpaulin to this effect, though with the added element of finality. Whereas the rope is used to restrain a live victim, we instead used the tarpaulin to wrap the body after the murder had taken place.
This has the effect of an implied conclusion, to both the trailer and the story it portrays. |
