Paranormal Activity
Paranormal Activity is one of the most favourited and well known paranormal sub genre horror films know to this day, the title displays a red glow on the title associated along with a blurry glair that surrounds the letters- this glair could be seen as something very similar to electromagnetic fields; electromagnetic fields are thought to be manipulated by the spirits and investigators believe that by using EMF(electro magnetic field) meters you can detect the paranormal as they use this to interact in our world. The colour red is usually used in negative situations, red can be used to display danger, gore, rage, anger.
Below the main title it says 'Don't watch it alone!' in a light blue/white colour which can be indicated as something genuinely innocent, the exclamation mark is quite a strong factor in this part of the front cover as it is a genuinely innocent sentence- it could also make people believe more that it is scary as the innocence inflicts seriousness and almost shows that they are advising you rather than trying to sell you something for their own benefit of trying to 'big up' their film.
The reviews that you can see towards the top of the cover are displayed in white- white is seen as a neutral colour and it could be used in order to display that it is coming from someone with a valid perspective. The font however isn't of a normal kind, the font used adds a chilling view on things as it's real peoples comments saying that the film was scary in a chilling font, it is much more effective as it draws the audience in more and instantly improves their chances of selling their product. Another thing is that the star rating is in red next to white writing which makes it stand out by a lot which also instantly attracts the viewer to it.
The choice of the title 'Paranormal Activity' is a mixture between the unknown and innocence, the word 'activity' sounds presumably innocent as you associate activity with everyday activities; however as soon as the word paranormal comme into perspective it completely changes the meaning, this is because the world of the paranormal is unknown and people assume that everything about the paranormal world is negative so they will believe that these activities are negative also.

Sinister
The Sinister is another film with the sub genre of the paranormal- the word sinister is a very clever word to use for the title as it describes the stereotypical world of the paranormal perfectly; some of the synonyms for this word are:
menacing, threatening, ominous, forbidding, baleful, frightening, eerie, alarming, disturbing, disquieting, dark, black. The fascinating thing about this is that the colour (black) is a synonym for the word Sinister. The colour black is therefore related to all of the other synonyms above which is quite haunting- it's almost as if the creators of this film wanted the title to be all of these adjectives put into one therefore they have used the word sinister to portray the film with all of these explosive qualities.
In addition, the text directly underneath the main title 'once you see him, nothing can save you' is also linked back to these same synonyms, the synonyms display a semantic field of a threatening nature as it depicts chaos with darkness and the unknown. The background/wallpaper of the front cover is mainly a white, dirty wall displaying multiple cracks spread more towards the right- cracks may indicate a history within the selected location of the film, cracks also indicate a negative story which is linked to the paranormal as usually spirits do not travel into the next world unless their mind is at peace.

The Women in Black 2- The Angel of Death
The Women in Black 2 is another paranormal sub genre, the main title 'The Women in Black' is in a glowing and pure white colour just like it was in the first one- white represents purity, goodness and innocence which is quite contradictive to the storyline- in addition, the fact that it is the opposite colour to black which is referred to as the colour of the clothing the woman is wearing; it is quite interesting to see the second part of the title is in red, the part '2 Angel of Death' is in red as they want it to stand out as a bad thing, they almost make it stand out as a warning making the audience think that it is much scarier than the first film.
When focusing in on the main title it links once again to the classic style of electro magnetic field which is associated with the world of the paranormal, this flashing could also represent the old fashioned projectors which makes you think of chapters; this technique could just simply mean that this film is just another part of the chapter.
